The Dancing Girl and The Clever Boy

On Friday Katia was involved in a presentation with the dance school. It was the first time they've held one and all the children who have done exams this year were invited to perform their exam dances in front of the parents and at the end were presented with their certificates. It was pretty good - I have gone to many dance shows over the years but this was different because it was quite relaxed and most of the dances were very short. The higher the level of dance, the longer the performance, which not only made sense, but made watching them more interesting!

Katia did both a ballet and a tap exam this year so she performed both. I got a small video clip of her tap dance, but wasn't on the ball enough for the ballet one - they were very short dances! Anyway, here's a few photos from the event and a short video at the bottom.

Waiting for her name to be called to get her certificate.

Receiving her Ballet certificate.

From September Katia will be getting her fill of dance, she'll be continuing with her regular dance class on Fridays (grade 1 ballet & tap) but on Saturdays she'll be doing one hour of disco dance classes, followed by one hour of drama, followed by one hour of ballet & tap grade 2! I asked her if she was ok with 3 hours of classes on Saturdays and she said "what else would I be doing?? Watching telly and petting the cat??!!" She's very excited!

Also on Friday (which was the kids' last day of school) Christian brought home his report card, and despite his exam mark on his math final, he got an overall grade of 79% - so no worries there. Overall he got 2 A's, and 2 C's and B's for everything else (apart from PE, which isn't ... ahem... his best subject). I am still trying to work out what each letter actually means though as the letters go from A* (which is better than just an A) all the way through to G - which is classified as a "pass". The only failing mark is a "U" which stands for unclassified. I'm not the only one who has trouble working it out though as apparently several parents had given their kids a hard time for getting C's (which they knew to be just a passing grade in their day) and the teachers actually told the kids to tell the parents that a C is good! On the first two reports there was an explanation to the marks but there wasn't one for the final report and despite trying to find some info on the internet, I am still not quite sure!

ETA: I found a grade equivalent table.
A*= 91-100%
A= 80-90%
B= 70-79%
C=60-69%

A "G" (which is technically a pass) is 28% or less..... which to ME anyway, is not a passing grade!
