Day out at last!

We finally had a day off yesterday! Yay! We drove to Llangollen but first stopped at the ruins of Valle Crucis Abbey.

We had made a reservation to go on a Canal narrow boat tour from Llangollen Wharf. We kept it as a surprise for the kids and they were quite excited to see we were going on a boat ride! It was a very relaxing, pleasant journey (narrow boats go really slowly!!) but they seemed to enjoy themselves and we spotted loads of duck families with their new ducklings. The highlight of the journey was arriving at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. It is very difficult to portray this in photos, but it was really awesome. It is quite a strange feeling to be travelling on a narrow boat 126 feet above the ground!

After Llangollen we drove to nearby Chirk Castle (nice photos of Chirk Castle & gardens). We have been before and although the castle itself is beautiful; it's the gardens that really drew us back. Afterwards, we stopped at a busy pub called (coincidentally) The Poachers Pocket where we had a quick bite before setting off back home. A good day!
