Sporty kids

Yesterday was the school Sports Day. It is held every year and usually includes a little summer fair afterwards with baked goods and a display of the kids artwork (which is for sale!). Unfortunately, the weather has been so awful that Sports Day was cancelled twice last week and the headmaster then sent out a newsletter informing parents that Sports Day would be held on the next sunny day! Luckily - the rain kept away until last night and the children were able to run on dry ground!

Katia and Christian both did very well in their races; Katia came first out of 6 girls in her class and Christian came 2nd out of the 6 fastest boys in his class (they'd had earlier heats).

They are holding the summer fair inside the school today so that it can't be rained off!

The children's Year End reports came yesterday. It's quite different from when I was in school; the children here aren't scored in any way - but rather their strong points are discussed and areas which need improvement are highlighted. The subjects discussed for each of them was Personal Qualities, Welsh, Science, Mathematics, Technology, Information Technology (computers), History, Geography, Art, Religion, Music and Phys Ed. Christian also had English which I think they begin teaching in Year 2 or 3. The reports always read well and are very positive but I'm not sure it really lets the parent know exactly how well the child is doing!
