A midday moan.....
Tonight is the last night the restaurant is open until March 1st. Yep - we'll be closed for two whole weeks including next week: half-term. We're going skiing to France for a week with the kids and another couple and their daughter. Yippeee!! Really looking forward to it! Before we re-open the restaurant, Martin will be preparing a new menu, so we'll be closed for 3 days after we return, though of course he'll be working on the menu.
Here's my moan: over the last week or so I have taken countless phone calls from people wanting to book this weekend or next weekend and I've explained we're not open for a fortnight, etc.. and most people have been fine about it BUT I've taken at least half a dozen calls where I have been made to feel that I have really inconvenienced these people! How dare we close! They have friends coming to visit that weekend!! Where are they supposed to dine now?? Occasionally I'll mention that we are taking a little trip with our young children while they're off school and sometimes that helps take the sting off - they then realise that we don't just supply an evening of good food and a place for them to socialise with their friends but that we too have a family and lives of our own, and yes, I guess we deserve to spend quality time with our families once in awhile... But that doesn't work on everyone! Some people must think that we are running a charity, or at the very least a public service and seem to forget that we are doing it for a better quality of life for ourselves and our kids. Grrr.....
