Birthday Girl
Today is Katia's 6th birthday. She's been waiting for this day for ages! Both she and Christian were up early this morning, hoping to open her gifts, but I told them they'd have to get ready for school first. I almost wish it was a birthday everyday - I've never seen them get ready so quick before! Katia got a Barbie horse called "Tawny" (she really walks and neighs) lol! That is the only thing she asked for; Christian got her a little Shelly Doll that spins like a top - um, I mean it does pirouettes! We had a bit of a hard time deciding what to do for her birthday - I really am a bad mother as I hate kid's parties. I offered her a choice of having a party or having her cousin Stella overnight to sleep and then 10-pin bowling in the morning. She chose the sleepover. But then....she said her friends kept asking her if she was having a party and she hadn't told them that she wasn't, so I thought maybe she could invite one or two (three max) friends over after school to play today. But then.....more and more friends wanted to come and she didn't know who to choose so we decided to forget about having a friend over at all and instead, I baked a cake and sent it with her to school today. I wasn't too sure how that would go down with her teacher, but Katia said she'd asked and her teacher said it was fine and they apparently had it this morning. Katia said it was lovely - I'd made it from 2 packets of instant sponge mix and threw in a handful of candy-coated chocolate chips. I am pretty sure I over-cooked it, but she thought it was good. Today while she was at school, I made a delicious "French" chocolate cake from scratch and decorated it with a sprinkling of icing sugar in a heart-shape. Christian didn't like it; thought it was "too soft", but Katia said it was very nice. When I asked her which cake was nicer, she said "sorry mummy, but the one at school was nicer". Ahhh....I see, the one that cost 98p and took 5 minutes to make was the nicer of the two. Oh well, what does she know, she's only 6!!Tomorrow is the sleepover....
